How the club operates

Scheduling

Reservations are first-come, first-served. Sign the aircraft out before every flight and log any squawks when you return. Members are considered a no-show after one hour past their reserved time, which releases the slot.

Currency & checkouts

A check flight with a Board-approved CFI is required before any member acts as pilot-in-command, per insurance requirements. Members must stay current per the club’s recency standards to fly solo.

Governance

RCFC is a member-formed, not-for-profit corporation. The Board of Directors sets dues, rates, and policy, and oversees membership decisions and club operations.

The complete Flying Rules and Bylaws documents are provided to every member at orientation and are available from the Board on request.

Frequently asked

Do I need to own a plane or buy a share?
No. River City is set up so members get affordable access through a one-time initiation fee, flat monthly dues, and an hourly wet rate — no large capital buy-in required.
What does it cost to join and fly?
A $500 one-time, non-refundable initiation fee plus your first month’s dues ($60) are due at orientation. Ongoing dues are $60/month regardless of hours flown, and N640SP is $150/hr wet (fuel, oil, and maintenance included).
Can the club teach me to fly?
The club is a non-profit social club, not a commercial flight school, so we don’t advertise or sell training to the public. However, members may train in club aircraft with a Board-approved CFI — several members are instructors who help others toward certificates, ratings, and currency.
Do I need a checkout before flying as PIC?
Yes. All certificated members complete a check flight with a Board-approved instructor in N640SP before acting as pilot-in-command — it’s an insurance requirement. See the Flying Rules & Bylaws section above for currency details.
How do I reserve the airplane?
Through the club’s online scheduler, first-come, first-served. You’ll receive your login at orientation once your membership is active.
Is renters insurance required?
The club carries aircraft insurance. Renters insurance is encouraged but not required; the Board can share coverage requirements on request.
